America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, badass speed. -Eleanor Roosevelt, 1936
Learn about track cycling
What is track cycling?
Track racing is a specific discipline of bike racing. It takes place on a short, banked track (velodrome) on bikes with a single, fixed (no coasting) gear, and no brakes. It's way safer and more fun than it sounds.
Types of races
Sprint races are match sprint, kerin, and (maybe) the 1 Kilometer Time Trial. Endurance races are the Omnium, Madison, (maybe) the 1 kilometer TT, and the 4 k time trial.
When you ride at the top of the track, you can ride down, and effectively ride "downhill" to get free speed. When you are riding behind someone, you are doing less work than they are. Now you know all about racing!
